THE JIGGERNAUT TRUIMPHS AGAIN, The SA Irish Regiment Pipes and Drums completed the competition season by winning the SA Champion of Champions competition held at Benoni High School on the 30th Of July. Led by Craig Herwill and Matthew Buttle this is 3rd year in a row that the band has taken the honours in this competition. FAUGH A BALLAGH AND TAKE NO PRISONERS!!

 

 

NOVEMBER IS A TIME FOR REMEMBERANCE , and the SA Irish as a part of a long standing tradition play at the annual "Shadow Parade",at the War Memorial in Saxonwold Johannesburg. As we remember the heroes of our past we also prepare ourselves for the future and this year we have on parade young Gilbert Rogers who turns 6 this year. THE DRUM MAJOR GETS MARRIED Drum Major Matthew (chubby cheeks) Buttle has married his sweetheart of several years Jenni-Mia Bennett. We would like to wish them well and to welcome the Drum Major to the small (and somewhat under pressure) married contingent within the Irish. All the very best Jenni and Matt - may all of your troubles...be packed in a kitbag...

 

NIC MORE THAN "TICKLES" THE SOLO NOVICE DRUMMING CHAMPIONSHIP 2009
Nicholas Tickle a member of our Drum Corps took the overall title in the Novice section at the 2009 Solo Drumming Championships held at St Benedicts College, Bedfordview on Saturday, 17 October 2009. Congratulation Nicholas may it be one of many!

THE VICAR JETS OFF TO SORT OUT THE CONVICTS Long serving and suffering resident band priest Des Snyman and family have jetted off to Australia to sort out their convict problem, we hear its significant. We wish her, Marius and the two boys all the worlds success. The Irish will miss you Des especially all us sinners.

GRADE 3 SOUTH AFRICAN CHAMPIONS AND CHAMPIONS OF CHAMPIONS 2009
You guessed it! The South African Regiment Pipes and Drums won everything in its grade for 2009 and added the "Drill Dress and Discipline" trophy at the final competition in Benoni in July. Well done boys and girls and "Faugh a Ballagh" because we`re preparing for even better things next year. Results can be viewed at www.pbasa.co.za

 


SWITZERLAND, land of cuckoo clocks, mountains and fondues waved goodbye to the SA Irish Regiment Pipes and Drums after our appearance at the spectacular Basel Tattoo. The band upheld the fine traditions of the Regiment and of Pipe Bands in South Africa and won the admiration of many for its disipline, turnout and musicality. FAUGH A BALLAGH (yodelled)

SOUTH AFRICAS SMARTEST PIPES AND DRUMS WINS REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS St Benedicts College in Bedfordview had to "Faugh a Ballagh" (Clear the Way) to see the South African Irish Regument Pipes and Drums to demonstrate as they have done all season, Irish pomp and splendour!

At the competition hosted by St Benedicts the band took the day musically as well as the overall "Drill, Dress and Discipline" title, something the band has done consistently for the last few years. The competition also heralded the end of the 2010 Regional Championship which the band also took both as a band and our drum corps took top honours in their competition.

So now its off to the Edinburgh to see what we can do there, Bon Voyage Paddys.....and "Break a Leg"

 

THE IRISH JIGGERNAUT PLOWS ON The Competition scene thus far on these sunny African shores has seen the SA Irish Regiment Pipes and Drums take first place at Jeppe Girls High School and at the Championship gathering in Amanzantoti. In true Irish spirit winning the musical bit wasn't enough so we up and won the Drill, Dress and Discipline (no leather or whips involved) as well. The party on the beach was also epic and was heard by a vicar we know in Australia. FAUGH A BALLAGH bruthas and sistas! See pics below and click for large pics

THE IRISH BRING LUCK TO THOUSANDS AT MONTECASINO As luck may have it, Irish Luck that is, Montecasino decided to once again use us as their premier Irish Pipes and Drums (good luck finding another we say) and asked us to appear this St Paddys. We blew and we blew and we blew AND YES WE BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN - FAUGH A BALLAGH

IRISH SHINE AT SA TATTOO
The esplanade at the SA Tattoo at Monte Casino in September was lit up with beacons of Saffron as the band appeared as well as provided pipers and drummers to make up other bands numbers. A great show it was and we`d like to extend our congratulations to the organisers for giving us the opportunity to appear. The SA Tattoo is an annual event and details can be viewed at www. satattoo.co.za

SA IRISH BAND STARTS UP FIJI CHAPTER
September 2009 saw the departure of Daniel Limpitlaw for the palm tree encrusted shores of the island of Fiji. Daniel, Justine and little Catherine will be away for a year or two as Daniel will be heading up a mining operation on the island. We wish you guys well and hope that your venture is a successful one. Daniel your Saab goes really well but it tends to shake a bit at 9000RPM!
